Who we are
InkScribe is an online studio that helps students in Nigerian universities and polytechnics write, reference and format their project reports, at www.inkscribe.com.ng. In this policy, “InkScribe”, “we” and “us” mean the team that runs the service; “you” means anyone who uses it.
We handle personal data in line with the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023. For the data described here, we decide how and why it is used.
What we collect
Your account
- Your name and email address.
- Your password, stored only as a one-way hash. Nobody at InkScribe can read it.
- If you sign in with Google: your Google account’s ID, name and email address. We don’t get your Google password or anything else in your Google account.
Your work
- Your reports: their text, outline, tables, figures, citations and reference list, and earlier versions of each report so lost work can be brought back.
- The details you enter for the title page and your profile, such as school, faculty, department, degree, matric number and supervisor.
- Images and documents you upload: figures, photographs, school logos and project briefs.
- Your settings and the conversation with the writing assistant inside a report.
Payments
- What you bought, the amount, the date, its status and the payment reference.
- Your card or bank details are entered on our payment provider’s secure page. They never reach InkScribe and we never store them.
Plagiarism and AI checks
- The text of each document you submit for a check, and the results and report that come back.
Refer & earn, if you join
- Your application: school, department, level, where you would share your link, your reach and, if you give it, a WhatsApp number.
- Visits to your link, the accounts created through it, the payments they make and what you earn.
- The bank name, account number and account name you give us for payouts.
Usage and security
- How much of your plan you have used (AI writing, references, checks) and how many actions you take per hour, so plan allowances and fair-use limits work.
- IP addresses: when an account is created, for sign-in attempts (to stop password guessing) and to spot referral abuse.
How we use it
- To run InkScribe for you: saving your reports, drafting and editing text when you ask, finding and checking references, formatting and exporting to Word and PDF, and running the checks you pay for.
- To handle payments: confirming what you paid for and adding it to your account.
- To send account emails: a welcome email, password reset links and decisions about Refer & earn. We don’t send marketing emails.
- To keep the service safe: stopping password guessing, abuse of free plans and fraud in Refer & earn.
- To help you: when you contact us, and to fix problems with your account.
- To run the business: totals such as sign-ups, revenue and running costs, seen only by the InkScribe team.
We use your data because it is needed to provide the service you signed up for, because you asked us to (for example, joining Refer & earn), to meet legal and accounting duties, and for our legitimate interest in keeping InkScribe secure.
What we don’t do: we don’t sell your data, we don’t show adverts, we don’t use advertising or analytics trackers, and we don’t use your reports to train AI models.
Services that help us run InkScribe
Some of the work is done by trusted providers. Each receives only what it needs for its part, and only to provide that part to us.
- AI model provider: when you ask InkScribe to write, edit or explain, your request and the parts of your report it needs are sent to an AI model to produce the text.
- Paper search and publication records: search terms about your topic go to a research search service, and to OpenAlex and Crossref, the public scholarly databases we use to confirm every paper exists.
- Plagiarism and AI checking: the text you submit is compared against published and web sources. Once we have saved your report, we ask the checker to delete its copy.
- Payments: Bachs processes your payment and tells us whether it succeeded.
- Image and file storage, email delivery, hosting and our database: cloud providers that store files you upload, send account emails and run the service.
- Google: only if you choose to sign in with Google.
Some of these providers store or process data outside Nigeria. We use established providers that protect data with industry-standard security.
We share personal data with others only if the law requires it, to protect people’s safety or InkScribe’s rights, or as part of a sale or merger of the service, in which case this policy continues to apply.
Cookies and your device
InkScribe sets only the cookies it needs to work:
inkscribekeeps you signed in, for up to 30 days.ink_refremembers a Refer & earn link you followed, for 60 days, so the student who referred you is credited.
Your browser also keeps copies of your reports, your settings and a few identifiers so reports open instantly and editing keeps working when you’re offline. These copies are cleared when you log out. There are no advertising or tracking cookies.
How long we keep it
- Your account and reports: for as long as you have an account.
- Deleted reports: in the trash for 30 days, then removed for good.
- Earlier versions: up to the 30 most recent per report.
- Sign-in attempt records: one day.
- Payment records: kept for accounting and tax purposes, even after an account is deleted, but without your email address.
When you delete your account, we delete your reports and their earlier versions, settings, plagiarism checks and their reports, and your Refer & earn details, including bank details. Images you uploaded may stay in storage for a short time afterwards; ask us and we will remove them.
Your rights and choices
- See and take your data: download everything in your account, including reports, settings and payments, from Settings → Data & storage.
- Correct it: edit your name and profile details in Settings at any time.
- Delete it: delete your account from Settings → Data & storage, as described above.
- Object or withdraw consent: for anything based on consent, such as Refer & earn, you can stop at any time.
- Ask or complain: contact us with any request about your data. You can also complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission.
Security
Everything travels over HTTPS. Passwords are stored only as one-way hashes, sign-ins use signed cookies, and only the InkScribe team can reach account data. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach affects your data, we will tell you and the authorities as the law requires.
Who InkScribe is for
InkScribe is made for students in tertiary education. If you are under 18, use it with the knowledge of a parent or guardian.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top. For important changes, we will also tell you by email or in InkScribe before they take effect.
